Who owns a published paper
The student does. By publishing with Atom & Ink you give us a non-exclusive licence to publish the paper on this site and in the relevant issue, and to keep it there. You remain free to reuse your own work anywhere else, including in applications and portfolios, and you do not need our permission to do so.
Originality
Submitted work must be the student’s own. Quoting and citing the work of others is expected. Presenting it as your own is not, and is grounds for withdrawal of a paper before or after publication.
Generative AI
Using an AI tool to check grammar or to explain a concept is fine. Using one to produce your argument or your prose is not, because the point of the exercise is the thinking. Disclose any AI assistance to your mentor. We would much rather have that conversation before publication than after.
Editorial decisions
We decide what to publish and in which issue. We may decline work, or ask for revisions, or hold a paper for a later issue if it is not ready. Mentoring support is offered in good faith and does not guarantee publication.
Corrections and removal
If a published paper contains an error, tell us and we will correct it and note the correction. A student or their guardian may ask us to remove a paper, or to remove a name or photograph from it, at any time.

Papers published here are free to read and free to cite. Do not scrape the site in bulk or republish papers elsewhere without the author’s permission. See the privacy notice for how we handle personal data.
