Every student works with a mentor with a doctorate in a relevant field. The first rounds are almost always about narrowing the question, because a question broad enough to feel important is usually too broad to answer.

Outline, draft, revise
Once the outline is agreed the student drafts, the mentor responds, and the student revises, for as many rounds as the argument needs.

Editorial review
When the argument holds, the paper goes to editorial review: a separate reader who has not seen it before. Not a rubber stamp.

A mentor will not write the paper. If a draft arrives that the student cannot explain in conversation, the work goes back to the outline.

Air scatters short wavelengths far more strongly than long ones, which is why overhead light reaches you blue. At sunset that same light travels through so much more air that the blue is scattered away before it arrives.
